You Should Be Testing Your Monitored Security System Every Month! |

TESTING YOUR ALARM SYSTEM IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT I would like to make sure you are doing a thorough test of your alarm system at least once a month. If you are not doing this, there is always a chance a failure has occurred (normally in phone connections) and you will not know your alarm isn’t functioning correctly until it is too late. Any time you do any work to your telephone line or telephone system is a time to do a test.
HOW TO TEST YOUR ALARM Follow the steps below to test your alarm WE DO PROVIDE AN ALARM CHECK/TEST SERVICE EITHER ON A ONE TIME PER YEAR OR 4 TIMES PER YEAR IF YOU WOULD PREFER US DO THE CHECK FOR YOU. JUST CONTACT US TO ARRANGE THE APPOINTMENT. 1. It is best to test your alarm during the day. Not at night or a time that you feel a neighbor might hear a siren and call for help. If you know that a neighbor might easily be aware of your alarm, it might be a good idea to let them know you are testing your alarm. 2. Call SecureNet Alarms (your monitoring company) at 1-800-561-0067 and let them know you would like to test your alarm system. You will need them to place your system “on test” for a period of time. If you can complete your testing in a short time, I would simply ask them to have your system on test for one (1) hour. If you feel you might get interrupted then ask for a longer test period. Remember, when the system is on test, the monitoring company will not dispatch medical, fire or law enforcement. So don’t leave your system on test too long. You will need to provide them your password to be able to do any testing or changing to your account. 3. During your system test, always answer your telephone in case it is a neighbor or the monitoring company calling about your alarm. Once your system is on test then you will go ahead and set your alarm like you would normally. You will have to wait the normal delay time (45 seconds or so). Once you wait the delay time, then go ahead and open a few of the protected locations (doors, windows, etc) to set the alarm off. If it is a door you typically come and go out of, the normal slow beeping will start. This is where you would normally shut off the system, but you will let it go until the alarm actually goes off. Once the alarm goes off then let it go for 10 seconds or so, then go ahead and shut off the alarm by pressing in your 4 digit code and the off button. The keypad should tell you that you had an alarm by a notice on the keypad. (such as ALARM 03 OR ALARM GARAGE ENTRY DOOR) This alarm notice should match the part of your alarm that you set off. If it doesn’t match, please make a note of it and you might need to request a service call or look into the problem further. It’s up to you how many of the protected zones that you set off. I would suggest you do 2-3 different ones each month. After several months you will have worked your way through all of your protected zones. After that, you will simply start over. After you confirm that the zones that you think you set off show up on the keypad display, then press your 4 digit code and the off button (1) again. This should reset the alarm system. NOTE: If you are testing a door that gives you a delay to come and go, remember it takes the exit delay time plus the entry delay time before the alarm will actually go off. For example if you normally have 45 seconds to leave and 30 seconds to enter, the alarm will not go off for 75 seconds. 4. After you have done this reset you will need to call SecureNet again and make sure they received the phone call from your alarm. All you have to tell the operator is that you had a system on test and you need to check and make sure they got your alarm. THE MONITORING COMPANY WILL NOT CALL YOU WHEN THE SYSTEM IS ON TEST. If they received the proper alarm notice, then you are done testing the system. If they didn’t receive the alarm, then discuss what the possible problems were. If they are not able to help with your possible issue over the phone, please contact us and we will need to complete a service call to assure proper operation. The “Cliff Notes” to Testing Your Alarm 1. Test your alarm during the day. 2. Call SecureNet (1-800-561-0067) and put your system “on test” 3. Set your Alarm as normal and actually set off your alarm. Test at least 2-3 zones per month. Reset Alarm after verification of alarm. 4. Call SecureNet to make sure they received your test.
